Unrelenting waves

Hold your breath 
Let go of any resistance 
Whatever happens 
Happens
You really have nothing
To lose
Control is just a well-crafted 
Illusion 

A solitary 
Glimmer of light
In a sea of darkness  
Learning to exist 
Self-sufficiently
Diligently providing for 
Its own needs
Never screaming for help
Never asking for more
Than its allotted portion 
What reliable answer 
Ever truly came  
To such cries 
Or whispers  
Lesson learned
The key to survival  
Is ensuring your own
Strength and stability 
What if 
The surrounding quiet 
Ever-expanding 
Like the universe 
Itself
Fluid
Yet unmovable  
Only serves to highlight 
The noise within 
Increasing it to deafening 
Proportions 

Today versus yesterday
Two seemingly identical
Pictures   
All is well
No need to worry
No major shifts
Of perception
Only when made transparent 
And superposed
Do they reveal
The insidious alterations 
For those who still possess
The stubborn gift 
Of clear memory 

What can you do
You ask
The sticky tentacles
Of anxiety 
Wrapped more and more 
Tightly
Around your neck
What can you truly do 
In the face of madness
Other than undauntedly sustain 
Its grey
Opaque look 
Don’t give in to fear 
Bite your tongue
Pinch your arm 
Dig your nails deep 
Into your palms
Whatever it takes to not 
Look away
To not run
The moment you turn your back
It will have you

So just hold still
Keep on pretending 
To embrace the flow 
Like everyone else
Going through 
The machine-like motions 
Of the digital 
Era 
But never tire of squinting 
Secretly
Into the night
Waiting to catch 
A glimpse of the shore 
The rock of permanence
If you really focus
You can already feel its
Sharp edges  
Through the fog of 
Uncertainty 
Universally proclaimed
As the official religion
