I haven’t walked this street in ages

Just a few days into January
A New Year
A New Beginning
Everyone desperately hopes
The city is half asleep
Even at noon
Despite the intermittent alarm tone
Of blaring car horns
Just an old lazy house cat
Snuggled by the crackling fire
Nose-in-tail
Seems completely unbothered
By the rare walkers-by
And the mild cold
It has seen so much worse
In its time
Streams and streams of people
And bushels and bushels of snow
Now only a few
Stray crystallized raindrops
Dare venture from the sky
Almost invisible to the eye
What a shame that some
Like souls
Don't even get to
Touch the ground
The glistening grey sidewalks
Wet not covered in ice
May seem bleak but make
For the perfect foreground
Of a innocently romantic
Acrylic painting
Almost entirely black and white
In which only a bright red umbrella
Covering the mutually in love couple
How incredibly lucky
Breaks the chromatic monotony
In imperfect symmetry
Or perfect asymmetry
With its down to earth
Reflection
An unnecessary left turn
In real life not the painting
Possibly in the reflection
What a Platonic idea
Retracing steps from long ago
Young steps of hope in love
Reminiscing doesn't feel so painful now
Or so frightfully dangerous
On the contrary it seems to have
Turned into some pleasant
Exotic food for thought
Ample fodder for the once starved
Gentle wild beast that is fantasy
But look
The place is not to be found
Maybe it was transformed
As I faintly recall it was going to
Or it simply was a wrong turn
Maybe too many years have passed
To recognize things just by blind touch
Of the mind
Who knows
I haven’t walked this street in ages
And a few ages before that
