We've been walking through these woods for hours, my King – My feet are bruised and so sore... But even worse is how lost I feel, Trapped in a maze that allows no escape. By day I strive to follow your path Ever ahead through the branches of trees By night I keep burning my heart Thus finding shelter from the beasts of the wild. Their howls taunt me and make my core shudder For they mock us with inexhaustible hate How fiercely they wage their atrocious war I feel them close by, though I can see them not. I walk and I walk and I can't help but wonder When will we reach the edge of this land? I dream of wide sunny fields in peace to lie down in An angel’s wing gently guarding my sleep. “Not yet”, you say, constantly leading me forward “Now's not the time for that rest – We must keep on moving, for see, the enemy Is closely behind, always scheming to rip out the very heart in your chest.” “The end will come, though, in its own due time – The moment when battle and chase shall be over A crown I will then set on your forehead And in my kingdom receive you with an everlasting embrace.” (2017)
